Pot odds

Pot odds are the price you’re getting to call a bet, expressed as the equity you need to continue profitably.

Formula (required equity)

Required equity = Call / (Pot + Bet + Call)

Where:

• Pot = pot size before the bet
• Bet = opponent’s bet
• Call = amount you must call (usually equal to Bet)

Example

The pot is $10. Villain bets $5. You must call $5.

Required equity = 5 / (10 + 5 + 5) = 5 / 20 = 25%.
